Crypto chart replay, free.
Bar replay is free on Basis, with no account, trial or run limit. Choose a historical point, hide everything that happened afterwards and advance one candle at a time so the decision is made with only the information that existed then.
What you get
- A visual start-point selector directly on the chart instead of a date field detached from price
- Single-step controls for moving one bar backward or forward without revealing the rest of the move
- Several playback speeds for reviewing slow structure or fast execution sequences
- Random-start practice that prevents choosing only memorable market periods
- Date and time selection when a specific event or setup needs to be reconstructed
- Current-chart or synchronized multi-chart replay, so higher and lower timeframes can advance together
- Indicators recalculated only from candles visible at the replay cursor rather than from the hidden future
Why this is usually paid for
Replay is commonly placed above a subscription boundary because it turns a passive chart into a training product. A live chart can be viewed once; replay can be used repeatedly, measured and made part of a routine, so platforms treat it as a feature traders will return to and pay for.
The computation itself does not require an expensive remote service. Basis already has the candle history and indicator engine in the browser, so replaying a prefix of that history is local work. Keeping it free makes deliberate practice possible without converting a learning tool into another recurring bill.
Replay still has limits that honest practice must respect. Candle history is not a full exchange simulator, a bar does not reveal the exact path price took inside it, and fills are never guaranteed. The useful claim is that replay removes hindsight from chart reading — not that it reproduces every queue and execution detail of a live order book.
How to use it
- 1
Choose the market before the outcome
Open a liquid market and select Replay, then choose a random start or a date you have not studied recently. Starting with a famous rally or crash turns the exercise into a memory test rather than a decision test.
- 2
Write the invalidation first
Mark the level that would make the idea wrong before advancing the next bar. Entry, stop and target recorded before the reveal are evidence; levels invented after the move are storytelling.
- 3
Advance at decision speed
Use single-bar steps around the setup and faster playback only when nothing is changing. Pausing at each decision point produces a useful sample; watching the whole move at speed mostly recreates entertainment.
- 4
Review a batch, not one perfect trade
Repeat the same written rule across dozens of random windows and record every result. Replay becomes research only when losing examples are kept with the winners and the rule is not edited halfway through the sample.
Questions
Is crypto chart replay really free on Basis?+
Yes. Basis provides chart replay without an account, payment card, trial clock or replay quota. The historical candles and indicator calculations are handled in the browser, so the same replay controls are available whether you are testing one setup or building a larger practice sample.
Does replay hide future indicator values too?+
Yes. During replay, indicators receive the candle history only through the current replay cursor. A moving average, oscillator or custom formula therefore cannot calculate from candles that remain hidden, which keeps the visible reading aligned with what would have existed at that moment.
Can several charts replay together?+
Yes. In a multi-chart workspace, replay can apply to the current chart or synchronize compatible charts to the same replay time. That is useful for reviewing a higher-timeframe context beside a lower-timeframe trigger without allowing either chart to reveal later candles.
Is chart replay the same as a tick-accurate trading simulator?+
No. Bar replay is a decision-training and strategy-review tool. Standard candles do not preserve every intrabar path, spread change or queue position, so replay should not be used to claim exact historical fills. Use it to remove hindsight and test rules, then apply conservative costs in a backtest.
