Why this is usually paid for
XRP has a very large following and one of the youngest options markets in crypto. Its contracts are listed on several venues, each with its own units and its own slice of open interest, so the numbers that circulate about XRP options usually describe a single exchange.
Basis converts each venue’s XRP contracts to the same units, sums open interest strike by strike, and computes max pain and modelled gamma on the merged book. The work runs once on a shared server read that every visitor uses, so there is no per-user cost to meter and nothing for a subscription to cover.
How to use it
- 1
Open Options on XRP
The button below opens the options workspace already on XRP, on All venues. The headline figures show open interest, volume and the put/call ratio for the XRP options market, with each venue’s share listed beside them.
- 2
Start with the heaviest expiry
The expiry chips show each date’s open interest. XRP open interest tends to gather in a few dates; pick the heaviest one, because max pain on an expiry with little open interest says almost nothing.
- 3
Check what max pain rests on
Max pain is marked on the open interest by strike chart. In a young market one large position can set it, so look at whether the figure sits among many strikes or beside a single dominant one before giving it any weight.
- 4
Compare the venues
Switch from All venues to each exchange in turn. When one venue holds most of the open interest at a strike, the merged figure is really that venue’s positioning, which is worth knowing before reading anything into it.
Questions
Is XRP options data free on Basis?+
Yes. XRP max pain, open interest by strike and by expiry, the put/call ratio, gamma exposure and the full chain are free, with no account, trial or data subscription. Everything is computed from public quotes and open interest published by the venues that list XRP options.
Which exchanges list XRP options?+
When this page was written, Deribit, Bybit and Binance listed XRP options, and Basis merges them. If another supported venue lists XRP options, it joins the merged view; the venue panel always shows which exchanges are included and each one’s share of open interest.
What is XRP max pain?+
It is the settlement price at which XRP option holders, in aggregate, would collect the least. For each listed strike as a candidate settlement price, the payout of every call and put is summed by open interest, and the strike with the smallest total is max pain. It describes positioning, not where price must go.
Can I trust XRP max pain on a small expiry?+
Treat it carefully. The XRP options market is far smaller than Bitcoin’s or Ethereum’s, so a single large position can set max pain on a thin expiry. Basis shows the open interest by strike beside the figure, which makes it easy to see when one strike is doing all the work.
Does Basis show XRP implied volatility?+
Yes. The volatility smile and the at-the-money term structure for XRP are free, read from the venue with the most XRP open interest, which the page names. No DVOL-style index is published for XRP, so Basis shows the smile and the term structure rather than inventing one.
