A screenshot gives an AI pixels to interpret. Connected to Basis, ChatGPT or Claude reads the candles and computes the indicators itself, draws the levels it means on a real chart, looks at that chart to check its work, and gives you the link.
A screenshot loses everything the model needs to be precise. It has to read prices off an axis, guess indicator values from the height of a line, and infer the timeframe and venue from the corner of the image.
It will still answer — fluently. The level it names may be off by a percent, the RSI it reads may be from the wrong pane, and there is no way to check without doing the analysis yourself.
Connect it
One server URL for every assistant. There is nothing to sign up for and no key to paste.
https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
ChatGPT
Plugins → the plus button → Add custom MCP server. Paste the URL, accept the notice and press Create as a plugin. Then switch Basis on in a new chat.
ChatGPT asks you to confirm before a tool that changes something runs, and building a chart counts as one. Available on plans that allow custom MCP servers.
Claude
Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector. Name it Basis, paste the URL, then Continue and Add.
Works on every Claude plan, including Free (one custom connector). There is nothing to authorise: the connector has no login step because Basis does not ask for one.
Claude Code
Run this once in any project. It is saved for every session afterwards.
claude mcp add --transport http basis https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project.
The candles themselves, and 200 indicators computed on the same engine the chart draws with — values, thresholds and crossings, not readings off a picture.
Levels with coordinates
Swing highs and lows, Fibonacci, trendlines and position boxes placed at the prices and times it measured.
It can look
The assistant can ask for a picture of the chart it built, drawn the way Basis draws it, and check that what it describes is what you will see.
A chart you can open
The link opens the exact chart in Basis — venue, timeframe, indicators, drawings — with no account.
Prompts to start with
Each one asks the assistant to check something specific, and says what it will look at — so you can tell a measured answer from a fluent one.
Analyse
Analyse ETHUSDT on the 1h: trend, momentum and the two most important levels. Draw them and send me the chart.
Checks: Live candles, computed indicators, drawn levels and a chart link.
Structure
Draw a Fibonacci retracement from the last major swing low to the swing high on BTC 4h and tell me where price sits in it.
Checks: Swing points from the candles and a Fibonacci at those coordinates.
Check your own read
I think SOL is breaking out on the 4h. Check the volume and RSI and tell me what would prove me wrong.
Checks: Candles, volume and RSI on the move, with an invalidation level.
Plan
Draw a long position box on BTC 1h with entry at the current price, the stop under the last swing low and a 2R target.
Checks: The live price, the swing low and a position drawing.
Prefer an assistant inside the chart?
Basis also has an assistant built into the terminal that works the chart in front of you, with your own model key. The free AI chart analysis page explains it; this page is about the assistant you already use.
Setup steps are as OpenAI and Anthropic document them in October 2026; menus change. Basis reports what venues publish and what the maths says about it. Nothing here is financial advice.
