Crypto trading prompts that check before they answer.
A prompt cannot give an AI data it does not have. These prompts are written for ChatGPT or Claude connected to Basis, so each one makes the assistant look at the live market — and says what it will check — before it tells you anything.
The prompts that get shared ask a model to "act as a professional trader" and "give a signal". Without data, it fills the gap with the most plausible paragraph it can write: confident levels nobody measured, a trend read from memory.
The fix is not a better adjective in the prompt. It is a model that can check — and a prompt that asks it to show what it checked.
Connect it
One server URL for every assistant. There is nothing to sign up for and no key to paste.
https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
ChatGPT
Plugins → the plus button → Add custom MCP server. Paste the URL, accept the notice and press Create as a plugin. Then switch Basis on in a new chat.
ChatGPT asks you to confirm before a tool that changes something runs, and building a chart counts as one. Available on plans that allow custom MCP servers.
Claude
Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector. Name it Basis, paste the URL, then Continue and Add.
Works on every Claude plan, including Free (one custom connector). There is nothing to authorise: the connector has no login step because Basis does not ask for one.
Claude Code
Run this once in any project. It is saved for every session afterwards.
claude mcp add --transport http basis https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project.
Say the venue, the pair and the timeframe. "BTC" is four different markets; "Binance BTCUSDT perpetual, 4h" is one.
Ask for the check, not the call
"Is funding unusually high against its own history?" gets a measurement. "Should I long?" gets an opinion.
Ask what would prove it wrong
A level that invalidates the idea is worth more than a target, and an honest model will give you one when asked.
Ask for the sample size
A pattern that happened four times is an anecdote. Ask how many cases a statistic rests on.
End with the chart
Asking for a chart link makes the assistant commit its levels to coordinates you can see.
Prompts to start with
Each one asks the assistant to check something specific, and says what it will look at — so you can tell a measured answer from a fluent one.
Read the market
On Binance BTCUSDT perpetual, 4h: what is the trend, where is RSI, and which two levels matter most right now? Give me the chart.
Checks: Live candles, computed indicators and a chart with the levels drawn.
Compare BTC on the 1h, 4h and 1d. Where do the timeframes agree, and where do they disagree?
Checks: Candles and indicators on three timeframes.
Mark the most recent swing high and swing low on SOLUSDT 1h as horizontal lines and tell me when each printed.
Checks: Williams fractals on live candles, drawn on the chart.
Check the leverage
Is ETH funding unusually high against its own recent history? Show the current rate, its average and its range.
Checks: Funding history from the venue.
Is open interest on BTC rising while price falls right now? Show me the last week of both.
Checks: Open interest and price history from the venue.
Compare funding on BTC and ETH perpetuals: which one is more crowded right now against its own history?
Checks: Funding history for both contracts, each against its own range.
See who is in control
Over the last hour on BTC, did aggressive buyers or sellers dominate, and at which prices was the volume heaviest?
Checks: Aggressor-tagged trades, delta and volume at price.
Did the last push up on ETH come with real buying, or did price rise on thin volume? Check the order flow.
Checks: Delta and volume for the move.
Follow the big money
Which coins do the screened Hyperliquid whales agree on most right now, and on which side?
Checks: A research-screened whale group's current positions, summarised by coin: side, agreement and concentration.
Map the whale entries, liquidation zones and gamma walls around the BTC price on one chart.
Checks: The Founders levels map, drawn on a chart. Founders
Find setups
Find coins on Binance where 1h RSI(14) is below 30 and volume is above its 20-bar average.
Checks: A market-wide screen on live candles.
Which of the most traded coins on Binance just closed above their 20-bar Donchian high on the 4h?
Checks: A breakout screen on live candles.
Scan for day-trade candidates in both directions on the 15m and give me the top three each way with the reason.
Checks: A symmetric long/short scan over the most traded futures.
Test it first
Backtest a 20/50 EMA cross on ETH 4h with fees. How many trades, what drawdown, and how did it compare with holding?
Checks: A backtest of the built-in EMA cross on exchange candles, closed bars only, with costs.
Compare the built-in trend and mean-reversion strategies on BTC 1h and 4h, and tell me which held up on data it was not tuned on.
Checks: A strategy comparison with held-out validation.
Size the risk
I have a $1,000 account and risk 1%. Long BTC at the current price with a stop under the last swing low: what size, and what is the liquidation price at 5x?
Checks: The live price, the swing low and a position calculation.
Be told when it happens
Prepare an alert for when SOL closes a 1h candle below the last swing low.
Checks: The level from the chart and an alert rule you review before setting.
Know the calendar
What high-impact events are scheduled this week, and what is the latest high-impact news on BTC?
Checks: The event calendar and the live news feed.
What it will not do
It does not predict prices. It reports what the market is doing and what the numbers say about it; the decision stays yours.
It does not place trades or touch an exchange account. Basis reads public market data and builds charts — there are no keys to give it.
A model reading good data is still a model. Ask it to show what it checked, and treat an answer with no checks behind it as an opinion.
Questions
Do these prompts work without Basis?+
They will run, but an assistant without market data answers them from memory and search snippets — the confident guess these prompts exist to avoid. Connected to Basis, it checks first.
What is the best ChatGPT prompt for crypto trading?+
The one that asks the model to check something specific and show you the result: a named market, a timeframe, a measurement, and what would prove the idea wrong.
Can ChatGPT give crypto trading signals?+
It can describe conditions precisely once it can see them. It cannot know what happens next, and a prompt that asks it to pretend produces a signal with nothing behind it.
Do I need to pay for any of this?+
No. Every prompt here runs on the free Basis server except the one marked Founders, which uses a paid tool and needs a member's link.
Which assistants can run them?+
ChatGPT on plans with custom MCP servers, Claude on every plan including Free, Cursor, Claude Code and any client that speaks remote MCP.
Ask your first question on live data
Paste the URL into your assistant, then ask it what the market is doing — and to show you what it checked.
Setup steps are as OpenAI and Anthropic document them in October 2026; menus change. Basis reports what venues publish and what the maths says about it. Nothing here is financial advice.
