If you were looking for a way to let ChatGPT or Claude drive a trading chart, Basis has it built in: a free MCP server that sets the symbol and timeframe, adds any of 200 indicators, draws trendlines, Fibonacci and position boxes, and hands you a link that opens the exact chart. No account, no API key, nothing to install.
The appeal is obvious: describe the chart you want and have the assistant build it — the indicators, the levels, the plan — instead of clicking through menus for ten minutes.
It only works if the chart and the data come from the same place, so the levels the assistant draws are the prices it measured. Basis is one product: the MCP server reads the same candles the chart draws, and the chart the assistant builds is a real Basis chart.
Connect it
One server URL for every assistant. There is nothing to sign up for and no key to paste.
https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
ChatGPT
Plugins → the plus button → Add custom MCP server. Paste the URL, accept the notice and press Create as a plugin. Then switch Basis on in a new chat.
ChatGPT asks you to confirm before a tool that changes something runs, and building a chart counts as one. Available on plans that allow custom MCP servers.
Claude
Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector. Name it Basis, paste the URL, then Continue and Add.
Works on every Claude plan, including Free (one custom connector). There is nothing to authorise: the connector has no login step because Basis does not ask for one.
Claude Code
Run this once in any project. It is saved for every session afterwards.
claude mcp add --transport http basis https://www.basischarts.com/api/mcp
Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project.
Venue, symbol, timeframe and chart type — including footprint and Heikin Ashi — on Binance, Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid.
Add and tune indicators
Any of 200, with their parameters, computed on the same engine the chart uses.
Draw what it measured
Horizontal levels, trendlines, Fibonacci, freehand marks and long or short position boxes, at exact prices and times.
Check its own work
It can look at a picture of the chart it built, drawn the way Basis draws it, before describing it to you.
Hand it over
One link opens the chart in Basis, in its own workspace, with no account. Links last seven days.
Prompts to start with
Each one asks the assistant to check something specific, and says what it will look at — so you can tell a measured answer from a fluent one.
Build a chart
Open Binance BTCUSDT perpetual on the 1h with a 200 EMA, Bollinger Bands and RSI, and send me the chart.
Checks: A chart with those indicators, as a link.
Mark the levels
Draw the most recent swing high and swing low on SOL 1h as horizontal lines.
Checks: Swing points from the candles, drawn on the chart.
Show the order flow
Switch ETH 15m to a footprint chart and point out where the heaviest selling happened in the last hour.
Checks: The footprint chart and aggressor-tagged trades.
Plan the trade
Draw a short position box on ETH 4h from the current price, with the stop above the last swing high and a 2R target.
Checks: The live price, the swing high and a position drawing.
About the name
TradingView is a trademark of its owner. Basis is not affiliated with TradingView and this page is not about its products; it is about the job people search for with that name — an AI that can work a chart.
It does not place trades or touch an exchange account. Basis reads public market data and builds charts — there are no keys to give it.
Basis indicators and formulas are its own; Pine Script does not run in Basis.
Chart links last seven days. Open one to keep the chart in your Basis workspace.
A model reading good data is still a model. Ask it to show what it checked, and treat an answer with no checks behind it as an opinion.
Questions
Can ChatGPT or Claude draw on a trading chart?+
Through Basis, yes: it sets the market, adds indicators, draws levels, Fibonacci and position boxes, and sends you a link to the finished chart.
Do I need to install anything?+
No. Basis is a hosted MCP server; you paste one URL into ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor.
Does it run Pine Script?+
No. Basis has its own indicator library and formula language, which the assistant can use.
Is Basis a TradingView alternative?+
For crypto charting it can be: free charts with order flow, derivatives data and screening. Our TradingView comparison sets out where each one is stronger.
Is it free?+
Yes, with no account and no API key. An optional paid Founders membership adds deeper research tools.
Ask your first question on live data
Paste the URL into your assistant, then ask it what the market is doing — and to show you what it checked.
Setup steps are as OpenAI and Anthropic document them in October 2026; menus change. Basis reports what venues publish and what the maths says about it. Nothing here is financial advice.
