A trading strategy builder, free, with no code.

Yes, you can build and backtest a crypto trading strategy free, without writing code. The Strategy Builder on Basis needs no account, no card and no exchange keys: open it, connect blocks, and the test runs again on real market data every time you change something.

What you get

  • 188 blocks: indicators, price and volume, comparisons and logic, buy and sell volume, delta, funding and open interest, and every Formula Lab function
  • A backtest that runs as you build, with next-bar fills, fees and slippage, and the same numbers beside buy and hold on the same bars
  • A chart inside the editor with every trade marked. Move along the bars and each block shows its value at that bar, so you can see why a trade fired or did not
  • One press to run the same rules across the Top 10, 30, 50 or 100 coins, or your own list, with a table per coin and an equal-capital portfolio
  • A Reference Market block to read BTC or a higher timeframe, such as only going long while BTC holds above its 200 EMA. A value reaches your rules only after its bar has closed
  • Plain-language checks on every test: one trade making the whole result, profit only in the first 70% of the window, an edge that doubled costs erase
  • Stop loss, trailing stop, take profit, maximum bars held and position size, on Binance, Bybit, OKX and Hyperliquid

Why this is usually paid for

Most tools that promise a strategy without code are really selling something else: a bot that wants your exchange keys, or a subscription that starts once you have built something you like. This one places no orders and asks for no keys. It answers one question, which is whether the idea would have held up.

The useful part of a backtest is the part that discourages you. Anyone can show a rising line. It takes more work to show that one trade made all of it, that it stopped working in the last third of the window, or that the same rules lose on every other coin, and those are the things that save money.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Start from the working example

The builder opens on a live EMA crossover with its results showing. Change a length and watch the numbers move, then swap a block. Nothing is saved until you edit it, and nothing asks you to sign up.

  2. 2

    Give every entry an exit

A rule with an entry and no exit opens one position and holds it to the end of the test, which is only buy and hold with extra steps. Connect Long Exit, or set a stop under Risk & Costs. The builder tells you when this has happened.

  3. 3

Use events, not levels, for entries

RSI above 40 stays true for weeks, so the rule re-enters as soon as it leaves. A Cross Over block fires once, on the bar the line is crossed, which is usually what was meant.

  4. 4

    Then try to break it

Read the checks, then run the Markets test. A good result on one coin is one sample. If the same rules lose on most of the Top 30, you found a coin that happened to suit them, not an edge.

Questions

Is the strategy builder really free?+

Yes. The builder, the backtests and the test across markets are free, with no account and no trial. Testing on stock and commodity markets needs Founders membership; every crypto market is open.

Do I need to know how to code?+

No. You place blocks and drag wires between them. If you do want text, the Formula tab shows the exact program your blocks compile to, and a Formula block accepts rules typed by hand.

Does it trade for me?+

No. It never connects to an exchange account and places no orders. It tests rules on historical market data and can draw the signals on your chart. What you do with the result is yours to decide.

Can I test one strategy on many coins?+

Yes. The Markets tab runs the same rules on the Top 10, 30, 50 or 100 coins by volume, a watchlist, or symbols you type. Each coin counts once, a coin that never traded still counts as flat in the portfolio, and the table shows what each coin is signalling on its latest closed bar. Lists ranked by today’s volume leave out coins that were delisted or faded, which flatters any result, and the page says so.

Can a strategy use Bitcoin as a filter, or a higher timeframe?+

Yes, with the Reference Market block. Name BTCUSDT or any other market, pick an interval and connect its values. To avoid look-ahead, a value reaches your rules only once its bar has closed, so a 1h bar at 13:00 cannot read a 4h candle that closes at 16:00.

Where are my strategies saved?+

Strategies are saved in your browser as soon as you edit one, with no sign-up. A free account keeps them across your devices. An untouched example is not saved at all.

Open it and see

The builder opens with a working strategy on the canvas and its results showing. Change anything and it tests again. Nothing to sign up for.
