Cumulative volume delta, free.
Cumulative volume delta is free on Basis, computed on live crypto markets with no account and no trial. It is a standard study in the library, not a preview of something you unlock later.
What you get
- A running total of aggressive buying minus aggressive selling, plotted under price
- Built from the real aggressor flag on each trade where the venue publishes it
- Divergence against price is readable directly: a higher price high with a lower delta high
- Works on every timeframe the chart offers, including sub-minute and range bars
- Sits alongside the other ninety-three studies with no limit on how many you add
Why this is usually paid for
Delta needs the trade tape rather than candle volume, so platforms that only ingest candles cannot offer it at all, and those that do ingest the tape tend to treat it as a premium data feature. The result is that a fairly simple calculation ends up behind a subscription.
Basis already loads the tape for order-flow features, so delta costs nothing extra to compute. Charging for it would mean metering something already fetched for another purpose.
How to use it
- 1
Add it to the chart
The button below opens the terminal with cumulative delta already applied. It plots in its own pane beneath price so the two can be compared bar for bar.
- 2
Watch the slope, not the level
The absolute value depends on where the accumulation began and means nothing on its own. What matters is direction: a rising line is sustained aggressive buying, a flat line during a price advance means the move is happening without it.
- 3
Trade the disagreement
The signal worth waiting for is divergence. Price making a new high while delta does not means the advance is being sold into, and that is information no price-only indicator can give you.
Questions
What is the difference between delta and volume?+
Volume counts everything that traded. Delta separates it by who was in a hurry: trades that lifted the offer count positive, trades that hit the bid count negative. Two bars can have identical volume and opposite delta, which is exactly the distinction volume alone hides.
Why does my delta differ from another platform?+
Platforms differ in whether they use the exchange aggressor flag or estimate the split from where the bar closed within its range. Estimates diverge badly on bars that reversed. Basis uses the published aggressor side wherever the venue provides it, so the values are measured rather than inferred.
Does cumulative delta reset?+
The running total accumulates across the loaded history rather than resetting each session, so the level depends on how far back the chart reaches. That is why the slope and any divergence are the parts worth reading, and the absolute number is not comparable between charts.
Is there a limit on how many indicators I can add?+
No. You can put cumulative delta on the chart alongside as many other studies as you want, on as many panes as you want. There is no per-chart cap and no tier that raises one, because there are no tiers.
