Percentage Price Oscillator
Comparable momentumPPO expresses fast-versus-slow momentum in percentage terms, making ETH/USDT and ETH/BTC readings more comparable than raw MACD values.
Ether trades on its own catalysts, but its cleanest signals usually appear when ETH/USDT structure and ETH/BTC relative strength agree.

Open ETHUSDTETH is large and liquid enough to support its own spot and derivatives analysis, yet it remains strongly connected to Bitcoin’s market regime. An ETH/USDT breakout during a weak ETH/BTC trend may be little more than Bitcoin carrying the quote higher; a breakout confirmed on both pairs has a different quality.
The most useful Ethereum workflow therefore has two axes: absolute structure against USDT and relative structure against BTC. Network, staking and ecosystem narratives can change relative demand, while broad risk conditions still determine whether that demand receives room to express itself.
Pair every ETH/USDT thesis with ETH/BTC. Rising ETH/USDT and falling ETH/BTC means the dollar move is underperforming the benchmark.
ETH can behave like a lower-beta benchmark in defensive crypto sessions and like a high-beta risk asset when capital rotates outward from Bitcoin.
Protocol upgrades, staking narratives and ecosystem events can temporarily break the usual relationship with BTC; do not force a correlation that has visibly changed.
ETH has substantial liquidity across spot and perpetual venues, so one venue’s order flow is useful but never a complete market-wide measurement.
| Horizon | Charts | Job | Invalidation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regime | 1D / 4H | Read ETH/USDT structure and ETH/BTC relative trend together. | Both the dollar structure and the relative-strength premise must be reassessed. |
| Day trade | 1H / 15m | Map session value, prior-day levels and whether ETH is leading or following BTC. | ETH loses the setup level while relative strength rolls over. |
| Execution | 5m / 1m | Enter on acceptance, reclaim or a failed auction with flow confirmation. | The local reclaim fails on a closing basis. |
| Scalp | 15s / 1s | Read immediate response at a preselected level; never discover the level here. | Opposing flow persists and price cannot progress. |
Label the Bitcoin regime and ETH relative trend before opening the execution chart. This separates market beta from Ethereum-specific strength.
Mark ETH/USDT daily and intraday levels, then note whether ETH/BTC is at support, resistance or in open space.
Compare volume, CVD and open interest. A relative-strength breakout with weak spot participation needs more proof than one backed by demand.
Write whether the setup depends on broad crypto continuation, ETH leadership or a catalyst. Each has a different invalidation.
Four indicators are enough when each answers a different question. Adding another trend line to confirm a trend line is not independent evidence.
PPO expresses fast-versus-slow momentum in percentage terms, making ETH/USDT and ETH/BTC readings more comparable than raw MACD values.
Holding above session VWAP while ETH/BTC strengthens supports genuine leadership rather than passive BTC beta.
CVD can reveal whether aggressive buying supports an ETH breakout or whether price is rising while buyers become less willing to cross the spread.
Use ETH ATR to size the position independently from Bitcoin; equal dollar stops do not represent equal market risk.
| Observed together | What it can mean | Practical response |
|---|---|---|
| ETH outperforms BTC · open interest rises · funding controlled | Relative demand and new positioning agree without obvious crowding. | Favor continuation setups while ETH/BTC structure holds. |
| ETH/USDT rises · ETH/BTC falls | The move is primarily benchmark beta rather than Ethereum leadership. | Reduce the confidence assigned to ETH-specific signals and monitor BTC invalidation closely. |
| Funding elevated · price stalls below resistance | Long positioning is paying to remain in a market that is not progressing. | Avoid late longs; wait for deleveraging or verified acceptance above resistance. |
| Liquidations spike · open interest falls into support | Forced selling is removing positions as price enters a mapped decision area. | Do not catch the first drop; look for selling exhaustion plus a structural reclaim. |
These are conditional interpretations, not deterministic signals. Venue coverage and timestamps must match before values are compared.
Yes. BTC defines the broad crypto regime, while ETH/BTC shows whether Ether is leading or merely rising because Bitcoin is rising. Both improve interpretation of the dollar chart.
PPO for normalized momentum, VWAP for session location, CVD for aggressor participation and ATR for risk cover four independent jobs without counting the same evidence twice.
Positive funding only means perpetual longs pay shorts. Mild positive funding can coexist with a healthy uptrend; extreme funding without price progress is a crowding warning.
